The Tsushima-maru Memorial Museum is a heritage museum located in Naha, Okinawa, Japan. The museum's mission is to commemorate the victims of the tragic sinking of the commercial steamer, Tsushima-maru, during World War II. The vessel was carrying non-combatants, including women and children, who were trying to escape from Okinawa to the Japanese mainland. However, the steamer was bombed and sunk, resulting in the death of almost all passengers. Today, the museum serves as a poignant reminder of the tragedy and honors the memory of those who lost their lives in the incident. Visitors can view pictures of the victims, learn about their names, ages, and life stories, as well as explore the historical context of the event. The museum opens from Friday to Sunday and weekdays by appointment.
Reviews
I think everything in this museum should be translated into English. Museum about children of Okinawa who died due to American army attacked the boat they were evacuating at.
I haven’t come into here
Small but very impressive and well documented museum about the history of the Tsushima-Maru and what happened in WW2. English translations on most objects (though not always in detail) and videos. Very friendly stuff
500 yen adults, worth the money to donate to this memorial wven though the time spent here was only 30 min. They were kind and put on a video in English for me and had pamphlets to take away. Always important to learn about the cost of war.
Great for what it is. The people inside were super nice and one explained she was related to one of the survivors - which was an amazing discovery
Valuable museum commemorating the tragic sinking of the ship at the end of WWII.
Just stop by for one photo😁 …
